FAQ
Is popcorn ceiling dangerous?
Popcorn ceilings installed before 1978 may contain asbestos; before 1980 also possible. We test before disturbance — code requires it. If positive, removal goes through an abatement contractor; we don’t touch confirmed asbestos.
How messy is removal?
Very. We use plastic sheeting on floors and walls, contain dust at the doorway, and bag debris as we go. Plan for the room to be unusable for 2-3 days during scrape, retexture, and dry.
Smooth or knockdown finish — which?
Smooth is cleaner and more modern but shows every imperfection (drywall mud work has to be perfect). Knockdown is more forgiving and slightly more traditional. We discuss at the walkthrough.
How long does a whole-home job take?
3-day-per-room average including drying. A 5-room whole-home popcorn removal is typically 2-3 weeks of work.
