Tooele County jurisdictions typically use valuation-based fees with minimums in the $80-$200 range. Permit volume is lower than Wasatch Front core counties, so processing times tend to be faster.

Special considerations for Tooele County properties

Septic systems: A significant share of Tooele County properties (especially in rural areas, Lake Point, Stansbury, Erda) are on septic systems rather than municipal sewer. Any work that touches the septic system requires permits AND a licensed septic professional. New bathrooms or kitchens may require septic capacity review.

Wells: Properties on private wells need separate permits for well work, handled through the Utah Division of Water Rights, not just the county building department.

Salt-air exposure (Lake Point): Properties closer to the Great Salt Lake face accelerated corrosion of exterior metal. Not a permit requirement, but worth factoring into material choices for any exterior work.

Owner-builder exemption

Same Utah state law applies: homeowners can pull permits for their primary residence with an Owner/Builder Certification. Maintenance/repair work under $3,000 valuation (excluding structural) can be permitted without formal certification.
