Honest cost ranges for handyman work in Utah, based on what we actually quote across the Wasatch Front. No bait-and-switch numbers, no “starting at $XX” with a real cost 3x higher. Use this to set realistic expectations before you start collecting quotes.

The single biggest factor

Most Utah handyman pricing isn’t about the trade — it’s about the trip. The first hour of any job (drive + setup + scope review) costs roughly the same whether the work itself takes 20 minutes or 4 hours. That’s why most handymen have a service-call minimum of $49–$95 and prices that drop dramatically when you bundle multiple items into a single visit.

If you have 3-4 small items, get them done together. You’ll save 30-50% per item compared to scheduling separate trips.

Service call minimum

Handyman Jacks: $49 service call minimum. Most Utah handymen charge $49-$95. If a contractor doesn’t disclose their minimum upfront, that’s a yellow flag.

Hourly vs. flat-rate pricing

Most reputable Utah handymen quote flat-rate per task once they understand the scope. Hourly is for diagnostics, troubleshooting, or scope-creep work.

Typical hourly: $75-$150/hr. Below that, you may be hiring an unlicensed handyman with limited skills. Above that, you’re typically getting a licensed general contractor or master tradesman.

How to spot bad pricing

Five red flags when collecting Utah handyman quotes:

  1. “Starts at $XX” with no scope discussion. Real pricing requires real scope.
  2. No written estimate. Verbal quotes are how disputes happen.
  3. No license number provided (for jobs over $3,000). Utah requires licensing.
  4. “Cash discount” pressure. Legit operators don’t push cash to avoid taxes — that’s a sign they’re not insured / licensed.
  5. Refusal to itemize. A single “lump sum” of $5,000 with no breakdown is hiding something.

Why Handyman Jacks pricing falls where it does

We’re not the cheapest. We don’t try to be. Here’s what’s baked into our pricing:

  • Licensed Utah General Contractor (#14195166-5501) — annual fees + bonding
  • Fully insured (general liability) — annual premium
  • Background-checked techs — per-tech cost on activation
  • 1-year labor warranty — sometimes we come back for free
  • Single point of contact (Barbie) — operational cost we eat
  • Written estimates before work — Slack/clipboard/admin time

If you’re shopping pure price, we’re not your contractor. If you’re shopping accountability, we likely are.
